Topological operators for grayscale image processing

چکیده
In a recent work, we introduced some topological notions for grayscale images based on a cross-section topology. In particular, the notion of destructible point, which corresponds to the classical notion of simple point, allows us to build operators that simplify a grayscale image while preserving its topology. In this paper, we introduce new notions and operators in the framework of the cross-section topology. In particular, the notion of λ-destructible point allows us to selectively modify the topology, based on a local contrast parameter λ. By combining homotopic and non-homotopic operators, we introduce new methods for filtering, thinning, segmenting and enhancing grayscale images.

Discrete Topological Transformations for Image Processing
Topology-based image processing operators usually aim at transforming an image while preserving its topological characteristics. This chapter reviews some approaches which lead to efficient and exact algorithms for topological transformations in 2D, 3D and grayscale images. Some transformations which modify topology in a controlled manner are also described. Finally, based on the framework of c...
متن کاملTopological Grayscale Watershed Transformation
We propose an original approach to the watershed problem, based on topology. We introduce a “one-dimensional” topology for grayscale images, and more generally for weighted graphs. This topology allows us to precisely define a topological grayscale transformation that generalizes the action of a watershed transformation. Furthermore, we propose an efficient algorithm to compute this topological...
متن کاملImproved Adaptive Median Filter Algorithm for Removing Impulse Noise from Grayscale Images
Digital image is often degraded by many kinds of noise during the process of acquisition and transmission. To make subsequent processing more convenient, it is necessary to decrease the effect of noise. There are many kinds of noises in image, which mainly include salt and pepper noise and Gaussian noise. This paper focuses on median filters to remove the salt and pepper noise. After summarizin...

Newly developed combinatorial Laplacians and curvature operators for grayscale, as well as color images are tested on 2D synthetic and natural images. This novel approach is based upon more general concepts developed by R. Forman and is inspired by the Bochner-Weitzeböck formula which is an essential identity in Riemannian Geometry. After the presentation of the operators as they operate on ima...
متن کاملReducing Anisotropy of Topological Operators for Grayscale Images
The cross-section topology is a framework that extends the notions of digital topology to the case of grayscale images. In this framework, the use of 4-and 8-connectedness induces geometric constraints in topological operators such as thinning operators. We propose a general method to obtain better results by reducing the anisotropy of such operators. We illustrate the method with an applicatio...
